Vision is on my mind. It could be because it’s the year 2020 and every pastor I can imagine is preaching on that subject. “20/20 Vision,” “Set your Vision for the Year!” “Have the Vision of Jesus!” Notice the theme? It’s hard to not at least consider what “my” vision is.
Vision has always been this broad and almost unattainable topic for me. I want to have vision. And I want to be productive and make a difference for God. But too often, I feel like no matter how many books I read, how many conferences I go to or how many Ted Talks I listen to… I will never fully understand it. It seems to me that every leadership guru has their own definition and method to tackle this monumental challenge of coming up with a vision.
Simon Sinek says about vision,
Great leaders must have two things: a vision of the world that does not exist and the ability to communicate that vision clearly.
John Maxwell says,
If your vision doesn’t cost you something, it’s a daydream.
And Helen Keller boldly writes:
The only thing worse then being blind is having sight but no vision.
Vision seems hard
I find myself overwhelmed with all there is to know and do regarding vision. But the Bible makes it simple Habakkuk 2:2 says: “Then the LORD replied: ‘Write down the vision and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.'” The first step is simply write down the vision. What has God called you to do? It could be as simple as being a mother, a husband or business owner.
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.1 Corinthanis 10:31
The first thing anyone needs to do is write down their vision and make it plane. It needs to be clear enough to articulate to others. With a clear goal and vision with end up just wondering around never achieving anything or the Kingdom. God’s desire is to use His people is magnificent ways! Let Him and be open
What happens without vision
Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.Proverbs 29:18
When there is no vision people parish. Without vision we have no guide post or direction. This overwhelming topic is made simple through the Scripture. God inspires and gives vision. He is always speaking and we need only to listen. We often want to read the latest books and go to the newest conferences about leadership and vision however, God’s word will always stand to be the truth. There is nothing new under the sun.

Two questions I leave with you:
- What are you called to? Who is Christ calling you to be?
- What will it take to get there? What must change in you?
